Sumac has exotic, upright flower spikes in the summer that are very showy. The soft, felt-like leaves turn a brilliant crimson-red in the fall, making this one of the best trees for fall color. Early pioneers extracted yellow dye from the Sumac and called the tree Dyer's Sumac.
A native American tree, this Staghorn Sumac will grow throughout the U.S. Adapts to any soil type and tolerates dry, unfertile locations. The growth habit is somewhat irregular and the branches resemble the horns of a male deer, hence the name Staghorn. These trees will reach a mature height of 15-25' with a similar spread in the landscape. They can be kept pruned to a smaller ornamental tree. Plant size/format: 12-18" bareroot. Includes 2 plants. Planting guide included.
