Product Description

This 35-coin collection includes emergency coins that were issued by the U.S. Mint during WWII in response to the military's need for metal like copper and nickel to use in airplanes, shell cases etc. This set includes ten 1943 Steel Pennies made from steel instead of copper, twenty 1944-1946 Shell Case pennies made of recycled copper from shell cases recovered from battle fields and ships from around the world, and five 1942-1945 Silver Nickels made of 35% silver to save nickel fro the war effort. These are the only silver nickels in history, and are identified by a lard mint mark on the revers above Monticello. Some of the coins in this exquisite collection are over 75 years old! They may have disappeared from circulation generations ago, but will always be remembered as the coins that helped America win the war! Includes a custom canvas bag.
